Andingmen Courtyard

As a main housing style of Beijing, courtyard dwellings, where live
generations of Beijing natives, are well-known to people both at home and
abroad. Courtyards emerged during the Yuan Dynasty when Beijing was for the
first time established as the country’s capital. Their architectural
structure, which has many distinct characteristics, is typical and
representative of the Chinese traditional housing construction. Though just
a kind of common dwellings, the courtyards convey a profound cultural
meaning since they are regarded as the carrier of Chinese traditional
culture. On arriving in Beijing, a place that has a long history and rich
cultures, you can feel its uniqueness simply by living in a courtyard,
tasting Peking roast duck, climbing the Great Wall, listening to Beijing
Opera and so on. If you are eager to know more of the city, living in a
courtyard must be the best choice.

Changping Courtyard
Online Booking Rate: 800CNY
This courtyard home occupies over one English acre of land (about 700 square
meters) and has 18 rooms in total with two courtyards. It was originally
built about 300 years ago during the Qin dynasty and at that time was
located on the west side of the Forbidden City in Zhong Nan Hai. This was
before the Summer Palace had been built and during that time the emperor
vacationed there during the summer, using this courtyard home as his summer
residence.
Seven years ago the home was moved piece-by-piece to the
northern outskirts of Beijing in the town of XiaoTangShan with views of the
mountains and where the air is much fresher and cleaner than in the city
center. It was rebuilt on a six-acre parcel of land where we organically
grow vegetables and corn. Each room was modernized with western-style
toilets, hot and cold water, heating and air-conditioning and five large
rooms have been decorated in the emperial style with classical furnishings
and artwork.
The central tea room, which separates the two courtyard gardens, serves
as a dining area in the mornings where both western and Chinese
style breakfasts are offered, including fresh-brewed coffee and Chinese
teas. A professional cook from Sichuan Province lives on-site and is
available to prepare authentic Chinese meals for lunch and dinner in the
main dining room.
Our driver is also available daily to take guests to the local subway
station or to other locations such as the Great Wall, Summer Palace,
Forbidden City, shopping, etc.
